Where Big Sky Still Eats, Drinks and Goes Out Before Opening Day

October 15, 2026

Big Sky's 2026 shoulder season comes in stages. The last weekend of October has a costume ball, a climbing party, a ghost town and a Día de Muertos celebration back to back. The quietest days of the 2026 fall come later, in the first ten days of November, when a string of year-round coffee shops and kitchens take breaks that overlap.

That pattern shows up in Visit Big Sky's 2026 Fall Dining Guide, which lists hours and closure dates by area: Town Center, Meadow Village Center, the Canyon and the Mountain. Read alongside the fall event listings, it lays out the six weeks between now and the resort's November 25 opening day.

The First Closures Started in September

The longest breaks started weeks ago. The guide lists Scoops closed from September 23 through November 27. Big Sky Noodles closed September 27 and reopens after December 2. Michaelangelo's Ristorante in Meadow Village closed the same day and is listed closed through December 9.

Ousel and Spur in Town Center went dark on October 3. The rest of the October closures are spread out:

  • Gourmet Gals runs weekday hours, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., through October 30.
  • The Wrap Shack serves weekday lunch until October 23, then closes through mid-November.
  • Alberto's keeps Tuesday through Saturday lunch and dinner until October 24, then closes through December 4.

So the closures come one at a time rather than on a single date. As some kitchens go dark in late October, the event calendar for those same weeks gets busier.

Late October Is Fuller Than the Calendar Suggests

The Warren Miller Performing Arts Center explains much of that. Its fall 2026 season has eight shows, a lineup that organizers told Explore Big Sky "now rivals the venue's winter programming in scope," and it's aimed at the year-round community during the off-season months. Executive director John Zirkle told the paper, "WMPAC really is geared toward bringing arts experience to our year-round local community, and that's never more true than in our growing fall season."

The first fall show still ahead is magician Jeki Yoo with Ellie K. Park on Sunday, October 18, at 5 p.m. It's a family-friendly evening of sleight of hand from a performer who has appeared on "America's Got Talent" and "Britain's Got Talent." Tickets are on the WMPAC upcoming events page.

From there the calendar builds toward the Haunted Peaks Festival weekend. Here are the dated listings for the next three weeks:

Date Event Where Details
Oct. 15–16 Spooktacular fall-break art workshop Big Sky Center for the Arts Grades 1–5, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., suggested fee $120
Oct. 20 Artist-in-Residence event 77 Lone Peak Drive 7–8:30 p.m.
Oct. 28 Wheels of Harmony Big Sky Center for the Arts Free, Opera Montana vocalists with J. Cruise Berry
Oct. 30 Costume Climb BASE 4–6 p.m., prizes and games
Oct. 30 5th Annual Skull & Roses Ball Tips Up Doors 8 p.m., 21+, $20 advance
Oct. 31 Old West Ghost Town Big Sky Chamber of Commerce 2–8 p.m., $5
Nov. 1–2 Día de Muertos Big Sky Center for the Arts Free, noon–7 p.m. both days

The Arts Council of Big Sky describes the Skull & Roses Ball as the kickoff to the Haunted Peaks Festival weekend, a night of Grateful Dead-inspired music and costumes with Cosmic Possum. Tickets are $25 at the door. The Wheels of Harmony page lists both 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. as start times, so check before heading over.

Wednesday nights have a regular fixture too. The Explore Big Sky events calendar lists free trivia at The Waypoint in Town Center on October 14, 21 and 28, with food and drinks available.

The Real Quiet Comes November 1 Through 10

After the Día de Muertos altar visit on November 2, the calendar changes. Several places that stayed open through October take their own breaks, most for about a week, and the breaks overlap.

Business Area Listed closure
Cowboy Coffee Town Center Nov. 1–7
Hero Snow Coffee Meadow Village Center Nov. 2–9, then Nov. 23–29
The Waypoint Town Center Nov. 3–10
Unravel Coffee at Gravity Haus Town Center Nov. 9–23

The Waypoint's break has a practical catch. The Explore Big Sky calendar still lists trivia there on Wednesday, November 4. That date falls inside the November 3 to 10 closure in the dining guide. The November 11 trivia night comes after the listed reopening.

The same stretch has a few bright spots. Ousel and Spur is listed closed through November 1, so its everyday 5 p.m. dinner service should be back just as the quiet week begins. WMPAC brings Big Sky Community Theatre's production of "Doublewide, Texas" to the stage on November 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. On November 11, BSCO hosts a Veterans Day Breakfast at BASE, served from 8 to 10 a.m.

Then, on Sunday, November 15 at 5 p.m., acoustic guitarist Luca Stricagnoli returns to WMPAC. Explore Big Sky calls him an International Guitar Night returning favorite.

The Places Listed Open Every Day

Under all those staggered closures, the guide lists a group of spots open seven days a week with no closure dates printed. They're spread across three areas.

Town Center

  • Hungry Moose Market & Deli, 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Roxy's Market, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Beehive Basin Brewery, noon to 10 p.m.
  • Pinky G's Pizzeria, noon to 8 p.m.
  • Terrain Tacos at Gravity Haus, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Meadow Village Center

  • Country Market, 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Canyon

  • Cafe 191, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The Riverhouse BBQ, 3 to 9 p.m.
  • Wild Caddis at Rainbow Ranch, 4 to 9 p.m.

A second group stays open most of the week. In the Canyon, Corral Steakhouse runs Tuesday through Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Bucks serves dinner Wednesday through Sunday. BYWOM in Town Center is open weekdays 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Block 3 serves dinner Tuesday through Saturday, and Thai Basil is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 9 p.m., plus Sundays until 8 p.m. At the Mi Pueblito Taco Bus in the parking lot by ACE Hardware, the guide lists weekday service from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. plus weekend hours.

Higher up the mountain, the guide lists The Rocks Tasting Room open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., along with Alpenglow and Beartooth Pub & Rec at Montage Big Sky open daily. At One&Only Moonlight Basin, Wildwood and Dear Josephine are listed open every day, and Akira Back serves Tuesday through Saturday.

Visit Big Sky says fall hours change often and recommends calling ahead. The guide gives (406) 995-3000 as the number to call about a listing.

Mountain Village Wakes Up November 25

Mountain Village is the one part of Big Sky that really does go dark all at once. The guide lists the Big Sky Resort restaurants, Cabin Bar & Grill, Scissor Bills and Yeti Dogs closed through Tuesday, November 24. Bunker Deck & Grill at the golf course is closed for shoulder season, and the Montana Dinner Yurt reopens in mid-December. In the Canyon, McGill's Restaurant & Saloon at 320 Ranch is listed as closed for the winter season.

The Big Sky Resort opening day page sets the 2026–27 season start for Wednesday, November 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mountain Village. Details on festivities and terrain will be posted closer to winter. Scoops is listed closed through November 27, two days after opening day. Hero Snow Coffee's second break, November 23 through 29, falls during opening week.

The last reopenings come in December. Big Sky Noodles returns after December 2, Alberto's after December 4 and Michaelangelo's after December 9. By then WMPAC has moved into its December run, which includes "Her Gift, Her Creation" on December 5 and Montana Ballet's "The Nutcracker" on December 13.
